Season status by species

Each count is a number of zones de chasse on October 29, 2026, evaluated by the same engine as the Hunt map. A unit that is not covered is a gap in North Ground's coverage, not a closed season.

Questions

Québec hunting seasons: answers

What can I hunt in Québec right now?

As of October 29, 2026, North Ground's certified rules show a season running in at least one of Québec's zones de chasse for American black bear (1 of 58), Arctic hare (58 of 58), Eastern cottontail (58 of 58), moose (1 of 58), ruffed grouse (58 of 58), sharp-tailed grouse (58 of 58), snowshoe hare (58 of 58), spruce grouse (58 of 58), white-tailed deer (1 of 58) and wild turkey (24 of 58). North Ground certifies 10 species here; anything else is not covered on this page, which is not the same as closed. Whether a running season is open to you still depends on your licence, residency and method, and federal migratory game bird seasons are not listed here.

What hunting zones does Québec use?

Gouvernement du Québec sets seasons by zones de chasse (58). North Ground Hunt draws the authority's own boundaries; use your location or search a place there to find the unit you are in.

How current is this Québec season information?

The status is recomputed for each day from North Ground's certified rules, which were last verified against the official sources on Sep 29, 2026. The authority's own regulations are the law.

Limits

What North Ground does not cover here

  • Six row fragments stay unresolved on purpose: moose and black bear « Partie est et partie ouest de 19 sud (sauf la partie nord-ouest) » (2026 and 2027), which may reach 19SE and 19SO, and the hares' « Île-du-Havre-Aubert » (both licence years), in zone 21. Where they may apply, their dates answer NEEDS_VERIFICATION, never CLOSED.
  • Species the pages publish but North Ground has not encoded: coyote and wolf, woodchuck, raccoon, fox, grey partridge, ptarmigan, the nuisance birds, released game birds, rock pigeon, and the moose seasons stated per zec. Each section is hashed, so a change is still detected. Migratory birds are federal.
  • Zones d'exploitation contrôlée (zecs), réserves fauniques and pourvoiries carry their own access rules and, in some zecs, their own seasons (named in the answer). North Ground does not hold their boundaries; the TFS layer's licence (CC-BY-NC-ND 4.0 on Données Québec) must be settled first.
  • Territories closed to all hunting (72 ecological reserves, 27 Québec and 4 federal national parks, 24 closed territories, all of zone 19 Nord) are read from the ministry's Chasse_Interdite layer at the exact point, and an answer inside one is NEEDS_VERIFICATION, quoting the ministry. They are not indexed per zone, so a whole-zone card says they are checked only at a point.
  • Zone 17 moose is closed to sport hunting, as the ministry states. Harvesting there under the James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement is a separate legal context North Ground does not evaluate, and every Québec answer says so.
  • The CWD enhanced surveillance zone (08NZ, 09OZ, 10EZ) is named by no season table, so deer there is UNKNOWN with a note saying where the point is. The disease pages that state its obligations have not been read as a regulatory source.
  • Legal hunting hours are not certified; turkey's are carried verbatim as the ministry states them.
  • The licence under which the ministry's GIS layers may be reused is not named by the service (AccessConstraints NONE); the ministry's map states it has no legal value, which every Québec answer repeats.
  • This page describes sport hunting seasons. It does not describe harvesting under treaty or Aboriginal rights, which is a separate legal context North Ground does not evaluate.
